Tangram Coloring Pages

These tangram coloring pages are a fun way for kids to practice geometry and pre-writing skills. The pages are also designed to inspire kids to be creative.

Geometry:

The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. Manipulating the tans stimulates spatial awareness.

                     

Pre-writing:

Being able to control the pencil is an important pre-writing development. The background of these worksheets has been created to develop those fine motor skills required to control the pencil in the path of motions needed for writing.

Art:

All art comes from a point of inspiration. The subject and a few tracing lines on the background are  given to inspire your students. There is plenty of white space for them to personalize the worksheet by adding their own details and/or drawings.

Differentiation:

Included are 15 puzzles. Each puzzle has 2 options:

Easy - The outlines of each puzzle piece are shown

Hard - The outline of the tangram shape is shown

Puzzle pieces (tans):

The puzzles are suitable for 4-inch tangrams sets (printer settings: 100%). You can use the provided printable puzzle pieces or buy a plastic or wooden tangram set. I have purchased my tangram set on www.enasco.com (4 sets: red, green, yellow, blue for $ 2,20)

Extra activity:

Flip the parallelogram. The puzzles in this pack have been specifically selected for this assignment.

First students solve the puzzle, than they have to flip the parallelogram. Question: How many other tans do you need to slide, flip or turn to solve the puzzle again? A recording sheet is provided.

Chinese New Year / Zodiac Animals

The Chinese animal zodiac is a repeating cycle of 12 years, with each year being represented by an animal and its reputed attributes. Traditionally these zodiac animals were used to date the years.

The 12 Animals of the Chinese Zodiac are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.

Your Chinese Zodiac sign is derived from your birth year, according to the Chinese lunar calendar. Those born in January and February take care: Chinese (Lunar) New Year moves between 21 January and February 20. If you were born in January or February, check whether your birth date falls before or after Chinese New Year to know what your Chinese zodiac year is.

This pack contains puzzle cards and math mat of all zodiac animals. Also included are  puzzle pieces (line art) and an additional activity: “I was born in the year of the . . .”

At the Circus - Tangram Patterns & Coördinate Graphing

Coördinatenstelsel / Assenstelsel  
 

Met behulp van kleurpotloden of stiften en een kleurcode maken de leerlingen een tekening op een raster van 19x19 vakjes. Op de horizontale as heb ik letters gebruikt en op de verticale as nummers : (A,5).  Voor leerlingen die voor het eerst werken met een cartesisch coördinatenstelsel is dit minder verwarrend als de gebruikelijke notatie van het coördinatenpaar : (1,5).

Afbeeldingen: 6 - Tent, Goochelaar, Konijn, Leeuw, Leeuwenkop en Jonglerend meisje.

Niveaus: 5 - Oplopend in moeilijkheidsgraad van kleuren op nummer tot een afbeelding die volledig is opgebouwd uit coördinaten.

De titel van de werkbladen is in het Engels. De opdrachten zelf zijn niet taalgebonden.

The activities require students to use the grid code / coloring directions and crayons or markers to create various images on a 19x19 grid. I have used letters on the horizontal axis and numbers on the vertical axis to introduce young students to coordinate pairs without the confusion of the standard (h,v) format.

Levels: 5 - From Color by number (color) to  Coordinate graphing with Coloring directions.

De Engelstalige werkbladen zijn te koop in een Amerikaanse webwinkel. Binnenkort worden ze, bij 'voldoende', interesse  naar het Nederlands vertaald. De cliparts zijn overigens niet taalgebonden en kunnen nu al wereldwijd gebruikt worden door docenten en ouders om zelf werkbladen mee te maken.

Misschien is het leuk om even iets meer over het ontstaan te vertellen:

Tot voor kort was ik jaren lang 'handenarbeid' juf op een basisschool, maar nu ben ik even fulltime moeder. Ongeveer een jaar geleden maakte ik voor het eerst een paar leuke multi-color tangram werkbladen voor mijn dochtertje. Ze werden letterlijk met gejuich ontvangen, dus maakte ik er al snel wat meer.

Inmiddels is de collectie uitgegroeid tot ruim 400 kleurrijke tangram figuren. Ze zijn zo leuk geworden dat het jammer is om ze alleen voor onszelf te houden. Sinds kort maak ik daarom zo nu en dan een uitgebreide serie thematische tangram werkbladen en cliparts met 20 verschillende figuren in drie niveaus die ik voor een klein prijsje in de Amerikaanse webwinkel voor docenten verkoop. Je hoeft trouwens geen docent te zijn om je in te schrijven op de site. In Amerika worden de werkbladen zeer positief ontvangen. Zie de ‘comments’ op de site.

Onlangs ben ik begonnen aan een serie educatieve werkboekjes en heb ik een spel gemaakt waarbij kinderen spelenderwijs kennis maken met geometrie.
