Double Tangrams - Pictorial Challenges - Set 1

Tangram Super Challenge: Twice as much challenge with twice as many puzzle pieces.

The classic 7-piece tangram puzzle came from China. Books of tangram picture puzzles were first published at least 200 years ago. About 50 years ago, the first double tangrams appeared in books. Double tangrams are made from 2 tangram sets (14 puzzle pieces).

This digital download contains 48 puzzle cards: 24 different figures in both silhouette and solution. Also included are matching puzzle pieces, an envelope, a chart for your students to keep track of the solved puzzles and a certificate.

Color Palette: 

I have chosen sepia brown as the main base color. This is to give the cards a touch of nostalgia. After all, the game has been around for more than 200 years. 

Instead of 7 colors I have used 5 colors for the cards with the solutions. (Congruent shapes have an equal color.) In my experience this helps to visualize and distinguish the polygons within the pictorial figures better.

Important note: 

The puzzle pieces are larger than the shapes on the puzzle cards as the pieces are not made to “fit” the figures on the cards. The intention is to reproduce the figure next to the puzzle card.

Coordinate Graphing - Halloween

This resource contains 6 different pictures and comes in 5 levels.
The activities require students to use the grid code / coloring directions and crayons or markers to create various images on a 19x19 grid. I have used letters on the horizontal axis and numbers on the vertical axis to introduce young students to coordinate pairs without the confusion of the standard (h,v) format.
