This week we (an upcoming illustrator ✏️ and I) have been working on something totally different: Skip Counting Worksheets. ☺️

Tan-O'-Lantern

For this assignment, the children have to use their imagination. As long as they stick to the modern rules of the Tangram game* and the end result resembles a face, they can’t go wrong.
 
First the children are shown 8 puzzles with Jack-o’-lantern faces (level: very easy). Then they have to cut out the puzzle pieces and try to create their own tangram face.
 
While playing with the puzzle pieces, the children practice their fine motor skills by using scissors and cutting out the shapes at the bottom of the worksheet to glue onto the pumpkin in the middle and spatial awareness plus transformations (translation/slide, reflection/flip, rotation/turn) by creating a new face.
 
This pack is great for centers / stations, early finishers and indoor recess. It can be used on it's own, but it is also suitable as an addition to one of my other Halloween tangram puzzle packs. You can find the ‘math mats & puzzle cards’ , ‘puzzle cards only’ and ‘PowerPoint’ packs in my store.
 
Tip: You can use the creations of the children to decorate real pumpkins.
 
*Use all seven pieces, they must lie flat and may not overlap.

Geoboard - Geobord - Geobrett

Yesterday I made a geoboard for my daughter Eline (3.5yrs). She really likes it but she finds it a little bit hard to be creative with it. So I've also made 6 picture cards for her with some images I found on the internet.

Here is the template I've drawn to create the DIY geoboard. I've used a  square cork pot holder, 25 transparent pushpins and  rubber hair bands (small & large).

 

And here are the picture cards. I've used two colors: blue for the large hair bands and orange for the small hairbands.

 

I will make some picture cards with geometric shapes soon and post them on this blog too.

Valentine's Day - Coordinate Graphing

Here's another Valentine's Day Activity! This resource contains 4 worksheets with a grid and 1 page with 8 puzzles. First students have to use the drawing directions to create a tangram. Then they can cut out the pieces and try to solve the puzzles. 

 Also included are the answer keys of the grids and the puzzles.

Valentine's Day - Heart Tangram Patterns

Happy Valentine's Day! These are two step by step drawing lessons on how to construct a heart shaped tangram and unique patterns.

First students have to construct a heart shaped tangram. Then they cut the puzzle pieces apart, rearrange them and construct their own unique tangram pattern.

After the students are finished, they can swap their own unique tangram pattern with other students and try to solve each other’s pattern.

Penguin Parade - Tangram Patterns

Basic Activity:

Ship ahoy! Come and join us on an exciting (polar) expedition. This tangram set contains 20 different South Pole themed shapes with penguins, mountains and two ships. Some puzzles are easy to solve, others can be quite challenging.

There are 2 different types of booklets, 1 set with additional activities and 4 types of puzzle cards. You can use any combination of booklets and puzzle cards you like. This makes it easy to differentiate, so it is a great resource for any age.


Additional Activity:

Meet this cute family of eight penguins: Wobble, Nosey, Chilly, Flipper, Speedy, Wiggle, Splash and Frisky. They all share the same body, but look surprisingly different.

Students are playfully introduced to the geometric terms - Transformation (Change / Move), Translation (Slide), Reflection (Flip) and Rotation (Turn) - when they give the penguin’s heads, beaks or wings a different position.
